Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Aizkalne

In his book published in 1939, historian S. Saharov "Orthodox Churches in Latgale," noted that the Orthodox church in Jasmuiža was built in 1904 with the support of landowner Grigory Kuznetsov and his son Nikita. The state treasury provided assistance in the amount of 4,500 rubles. On July 8 of the same year, the church was consecrated in honor of the Virgin Mary. The brick building measures 22 x 5 m and has two domes and a bell tower. As of January 1, 1938, the church had 142 members living in the immediate and surrounding areas, up to 20 kilometers away.
