Memorial for resisting deportation, to policeman Jānis Babris
On the land of Arendole Manor, the owner of Arendole Manor, Arvīds Turlajs, and his companions installed a memorial stone to the police officer from Randauka, Jons Babris. Born in 1904. Interior officer (policeman /Kalupe/). He showed armed resistance during the deportation in June 1941. In the summer of 1941 he was an organiser of a self-defence unit operating in the vicinity of Vārkava and Kalupe. Sons Ēvalds, Pēteris, Viktors, daughter Valentīna, married to Francis Teirumnīks. Brother, teacher Stanislav Babris. Awarded with the Order of Vesthardus Medal of Honour /1939/. On 22 August 2010 a monument to Janis Babris was unveiled in Arendole.He died in 1982 in England.
