Preili Manor Complex and Park, Preiļi castle
Preili manor complex and park is the pride of Preili historical heritage and the largest urban park in Latvia (48 ha). In the Middle Ages, the Preilu district with the castle belonged to the Livonian Order, but since 1382 it was the property of Baron von Borch family. The building of Preili manor as a whole and each of its elements separately (castle, chapel, stable, gate, gatekeeper’s house, park) are architectural monuments of national importance, surrounded by many legends and secrets. In the park, it is also possible to enjoy the “Dizkoki Trail” (ancient big trees).
During World War I, Preiļi Castle served as a war hospital, and the chapel of the Preiļi Manor complex and park was used as the headquarters of the atheist club "Closer to the Light" during the War of Independence.
