Rušona Roman Catholic Church of St. Michael the Archangel

Apraksts

The first known Catholic church in Rušona was a wooden building, believed to have been built in the 16th century. Rušona was once a populated place with town rights, as major transport routes passed through it: to Daugavpils, Dagda, Rēzekne, and other places. When the railway and a new highway were built, which no longer passed through the town of Rušona, this settlement declined and lost its town status around 1870.

In 1677, the Jesuits, with the support of the lord of the manor Sokolovskis, built a wooden church in Rušona. In 1766, a third wooden church was built on the site of the previous church, but in 1816, the current stone church in Rušona was built with funds from Ieva Selecka.
