Apraksts

he first Catholic church in Vanagi was the old Vārkava church. After the construction of the new church in Vārkava, the old building was moved to Vanagi and erected in the Vanagi cemetery in 1882. It obtained legal church rights on May 22, 1894. With the establishment of the parish in 1918, this branch church became the main parish church. The current stone church was built in 1936 by enclosing the old church structure. On October 14, 1934, the Dean of Līvāni, Staņislavs Vaikulis, blessed the foundations of the church, and on October 11, 1936, during the service of Pastor Leons Garška, Bishop Jāzeps Rancāns consecrated the church in honor of Saint Anne.

Right next to the church are the new and old cemeteries of Vanagi Saint Anne. Significant personalities for the Vanagi parish are buried in these cemeteries, including Jānis Staris and priest Pēteris Onckuls, and there is also a monument dedicated to the memory of Antons Juhņevičs and the National Partisans. Both cemeteries serve as a reflection of history, offering a glimpse into the past of the parish.

An audio guide with a story about priest Juhņevičs and the activities of the Latgalian partisans is available.
