Varkava manor was first mentioned in writings in 1583, and was then leased to the noble Bernard Oledenbokum. In 19th century, Varkava’s folverk became an independent manor, and a new stone castle of Varkava manor and a stone church of Varkavas parish were built then. In 2000, the restoration works of the Varkava manor castle began. Currently, the village administration, the Upmala library, and a family doctor’s practice are located in the castle building of the Varkava manor. The castle is on the list of State protected immovable cultural monuments, and Varkavas park around the castle is a natural monument.
