Preiļi Manor Park Legacy Tree Trail – In the summer of 2018, arborists conducted a tree survey in Preiļi Park, during which the existing legacy trees in the park were identified. During the survey, the location, dimensions and species of each legacy tree were recorded, each tree was assigned a number, and the condition of each tree and the necessary maintenance work was assessed, which was carried out in December. After the survey, it was found that there are 9 trees of national importance in the park, as well as several trees that are considered to be of local importance. In April of this year, at a meeting of the Preiļi District Council, seven trees were granted the status of locally significant trees. The 16 trees in the park are marked with special identification signs – oak leaves.

The Legacy Tree Trail in the park begins near the ruins of the historic horse stable, heading towards Chapel. Next to each tree on the Legacy Tree Trail, there is an information stand with information about the specific giant tree and a QR code, which can be scanned with an Android device to open the Legacy Tree Trail mobile app. When you open it for the first time, you will be asked to install the app on your device, where you can choose one of the available languages. The Preiļi Legacy Tree Trail app can also be found on Google Play Store. Each information stand next to a tree indicates the number of the specific legacy tree on the trail.

When you open the app, it connects to Google Maps and allows everyone to follow the route of the legacy tree trail on the map, see which tree you are currently standing next to, and find out where to go next to find the next of the 16 legacy trees. Similarly, clicking on a specific legacy tree on the map displays its image, making it easier to spot and find that particular tree in nature. After completing the entire legacy tree trail, you can share your achievement online using the information in the mobile app for the last of the 16 legacy trees.

The mobile app for the Legacy Tree Trail provides information about Preiļi Park, its history, trees, and nature. Each tree is accompanied by a question, the answer to which can be found at the next legacy tree, allowing visitors to test their knowledge. To make the walk along the Legacy tree trail more attractive, each tree offers a sporting, fun or physical activity that can be done either in a group or individually.
